The AT-VM95 is the result of many years of development work and accumulated experience, and replaces the classic AT90 series pickups such as the AT91 and AT95.
The VM concept with two magnets has been used to get a better channel separation. This type of construction previously existed only in the more exclusive series from Audio-Technica, so it is a big sonic boost that the entry-level series is also gifted with this concept. 

Elliptical needle tip
You can never get away from the fact that the needle is one of the most important components of a pickup. The material and shape of the needle control so much of the final result. The VM95EN has a bare tip, which means that a larger diamond has been mounted directly into the tubular aluminum cantilever. The diamond has an elliptical cut with a radius of 0.3x0.7 mil. Compared to a conical tip, the elliptical tip can follow the shape of the disc groove better and thus perceive even small variations, which ultimately gives a more detailed sound. Elliptical grinding gives a larger vertical installation area in the disc groove and if the pickup is correctly adjusted, this gives less wear on the needle and disc.

Fixed threads
To make assembly and adjustment simpler, the VM95 series has fixed threads, which means that no nuts are needed for assembly.
